Leadership & Legacy

Annual Report, Layout Design and Art Direction.

Project summary

This year marked the first time that The San Diego Foundation managed the complete design and production of the annual report internally, within the marketing department.

It was a year filled with new milestones and unprecedented success for The San Diego Foundation. We achieved new levels in philanthropy, increased our grant-making amounts, and enhanced our ability to lead the region in addressing natural disasters, like the wildfires of 2007. We take pride in looking back at the past year, identifying the theme of Leadership and Legacy. This theme embodies our identity as community leaders, civic participants, and conveners within the San Diego community, committed to elevating the quality of life for everyone in the region.

Our design journey started with brainstorming ideas for the annual theme. We collected photographs of our partners, donor events, scholarship recipients, and staff throughout the year. From these images, we chose the one that best represented our narrative, after which the marketing director penned the accompanying text.

Subsequently, we focused on the primary design layouts, which encompassed the cover, the CEO’s letter, program pages, donor updates, endowment details, and non-endowment information. The layout was meticulously planned and executed from beginning to end. After sending the annual report and its related assets to the printer, I supervised the pre-press process until it was completed.
October of 2007 brought with it one of the greatest natural
disasters in Southern California’s history. It also brought out the
best in San Diegans, who reached out to lend a hand to neighbors,
friends, and their communities.
