I started designing in Cali, Colombia, finished my Graphic Design degree, and haven't stopped since. The next decades took me through Vancouver Film School, San Diego, and a remote masterclass with CareerFoundry's Berlin program, picking up UX, UI, Voice UI, Frontend, and, most recently, an AI for UX/UI certificate along the way.
I've run two careers in parallel since 2003. On the studio side, I founded Jackie Lackenbacher Design and have kept it open for more than 20 years, quietly serving nonprofits and startups who need design that earns trust on tight budgets. On the in-house side, I led design at The San Diego Foundation (brought design in-house, saved over $1M annually), then as VP of Graphic & Web Design at LightStream (Truist Bank), where I introduced human-centered practice and shipped a Storybook system that cut review cycles by 60%. Most recently, I was a Lead Consultant Experience Designer at Perficient, where a redesign I led doubled task success, and our design system cut frontend dev time by 40%.
The thread through it all: I work best at the seam between strategy and craft.
I design systems that ship. I run research that moves real numbers. I lead teams without losing the warmth that comes from being a maker first.
